Life Theater, LLC launched in August of 2025 with the mission to document the stories of real people. The idea originated with Star – the founder, educator, and historian behind Life Theater. In the fall of 2020, while teaching history remotely during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Star embarked on her own historical research in observance of the 2020 Suffrage Centennial. That research sparked connections with individuals all over Washington State. While the research was rewarding, it was in those conversations and stories that she discovered something special.

From 2020 to 2025, Star had published research, written articles, lesson plans, and archived histories for institutions, but found that her real passion was in making those interpersonal connections and recording authentic, human stories.

Where did the name Life Theater come from?

Life Theater is a phrase that emerged through suffragist research in the context of women serving on juries. The speaker, a Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court in 1877, said the courtroom was not to become the “life theater of the timid, shrinking woman”. Needless to say, he did not support a woman’s right to vote, and doubted her capacity to serve on juries. It stuck. In response, Life Theater was chosen to refute the claim that only people with power and influence deserve to be enfranchised into memory.

What makes Life Theater unique?

Star is a nurturing communicator. People feel safe and encouraged by her genuine enthusiasm and curiosity. While it is always a professional relationship, a connection is inherently established and the storyteller can place their trust in the process.

From the first introduction to the project’s completion, Life Theater keeps each story-stakeholder informed and engaged in the process. No story is complete until the client is satisfied their film is authentic, attractive, and engaging.
